Monitoring Methods: the Measurements, 2022
In Monitoring Methods scientific archive material is mixed with own works. Fascinated by nature-conservation archives I adopted this imagery. Between my own images and the archival images it is hard to tell which ones are mine. I challenge the viewer to think about how quickly we are inclined to take images as "true" and, in doing so, what role photography has within the discovery of nature. In our constant drive to collect the world around us, observation plays an essential role; the photograph remains the indisputable proof. We assume that images contain information and that an organized reality exists. However, the collected data is only a translation of the world around us. This translated concept of our environment remains an abstraction of the reality that we experience with our senses, it is not an objective truth. Our so thought facts dissolve in fiction.
